What would be some of the first things to happen if you were to go blind?

I'm trying to do a bit of research on blindness, and I'm wondering, does anyone have any first or second hand info? So I mean like, kinds of therapy, certain items that would be purchased to make life easier. I realize a lot of things would change, and I know the obvious, but what about some things that people wouldn't usually think of that would be a lot more difficult or different. I guess in general, other than the obvious... what would life be like?
