Shiny effect for my art project?

Im doing my art project and i drew a building and filed it in with oil pastel, however i need to make the building shiny, so i was thinking of brushing some clear nailpolish on it, but im not sure, any ideas? Also i need to make an old effect for the bricks of a building, any ideas on how i could do that? thanks :) x
